AAFES Black Friday Ad

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching which means the official start to the Holiday season is almost here. Though, if you are anything like I am you started shopping in July and August so you didn't have to shell out so much money at once. But one thing that does help (if you are brave enough) is all of the "sales" this upcoming Friday. I for one will be at our AAFES VERY early Friday morning. Hopefully the crowds won't be too large. So if you are brave enough to venture out Friday here is the AAFES ad for all the Air Force and Army families.

Memories...

I heard "What are you waiting for" by Gwen Stefani the other day and it brought back a lot of memories. Some good and some bad. Its funny how a song or a smell can take you back to a certain place or time. Like whenever I smell Bath and Body Works Magnolia Blossom it takes me back to a few summers ago. Or whenever I hear "Champagne Supernova" by Oasis that takes me way back to the good ole High School days. And you just can't help but to think "If only I knew then what I know now." What are some of the things that triggers your memories?

♥ Here's one for a trip down memory lane ♥

The Monday Blues

The new rule is Dress Blues are to be worn on Mondays. Yep, that's right and C is none too happy about that one. When he first heard that all airmen had to wear their Blues on Monday's he was sure it was a joke. Well, when he came home from work I could tell that it wasn't. He huffed and headed to the guest room. After he finally made his way to the back of the closet, he pulled out a uniform that looked like it could fit me. I tried to hide the smile on my face as he just looked at them and shook his head. He has not worn his Blues since Basic Training and needless to say, he has put on a little weight. And to top it all off he didn't have half of the ribbons he was suppose to. So off to the Military Clothing Store he went. He came back with a bigger shirt and a few ribbons but not half of what he needed. I asked him if he could not find the one's he needed and he said that they were sold out. So apparently he isn't the only one who was taken by surprise. I on the other hand enjoyed him getting all dressed up. But then again I am not the one who has to wear them all day.

Halloween!

So last night I finally convinced C into carving pumpkins. He said that he would, but he didn't want to. So I gave him the Pattern Book and he picks the hardest pattern. Go figure! We also got Princess P a pumpkin to draw on, so it would be her "own" work. She was doing good until she decided that she had rather eat the marker and draw on her face, lol. It was too cute. Here are some pictures from last night. Can you tell what they are? Just in case you can't, My Pirate Ship, Princess P's wonderful creation and C's Happy Halloween Tree. (Please excuse the hubby's feet in the doorway).

Little Lamby

I was lucky enough to win an adorable Lamb Pillow from Dippy Dot on Raising Itty-Bitty Bookworms. We have nicknamed the Lamb "Lamby" and it is easily becoming my daughters favorite toy (read: Favorite item to chew on). Dippy Dot has a variety of items including one of my personal favorites the U. S. Air Force Angel :). All of these creations are brought to life by "Nana" who loves to crochet and quilt. She also makes ties for military troops, toys for St. Jude, and hats, booties, and blankets for preemies. So go and check out Dippy Dot, I'm sure you will find something to fall in love with.

Virginia

We took a trip home to Virginia this past week and it was so much fun. We let Princess P's Grandma watch her so C and I could go out. It was nice getting to see both of our families but it is nice to be home. Now I just have to unpack and do laundry. I thought I would post some pictures I took back in the mountains.

NIP

I have a fear of NIP (nursing in public). I don't know if it is because people give me dirty looks or because I have a wiggling 4 month old trying to pull down the blanket that is covering us. Well I have found the solution to at least one of the problems. It is called a Hooter Hider and its made by Bebe au Lait. Luckily you can enter to win one at Pho For Five ! But hurry the giveaway ends Sunday October 12th.

The Reborn Craze

I was watching our local news tonight and it had a segment on Reborn Babies. I had not heard of these dolls until recently and it made me curious as to what these Babies were all about. At first I thought they were the teaching dolls that they give to teenagers in High School ,but I was wrong. Grown people have the Reborn Babies and take care of them like real children. They have very human like characteristics and resemble newborn babies. To me it seems a little strange. People say they have the dolls to "fulfill" the urge to nurture something. One lady even said she has hers because she could not have children and this was the next best thing. I seen on the report where people are buying cribs, carseats, and strollers for these dolls. Police even broke into one car because a "baby" was locked in it. Turns out it was a Reborn Baby. I just feel very uneasy about adults playing with dolls. But I guess to each their own.

Nice Try...

After reading all the money savvy ladies blogs I decided I would try to get in on the action. Well...... I FAILED. I tried my hand at all the coupon deals at Walgreens this week and it didn't work out to well. Although I did get some good deals it didn't turn out as I expected. I thought you could use Manufacturers coupons with the Register Rewards and I was wrong. So all I succeeded in was making the clerk frustrated and making the people behind me mad. I did have one good purchase I am happy about on childrens Tylenol. Walgreens is having a sale on Childrens Tylenol for 4.99 and if you buy 3 or more you get $5 Register Rewards. I found a $5 off 3 bottles coupon and $1 off Manufacturers coupon and when I got to the store the Easy Saver Catalog has $1.50 (which rang up 3 times) coupon on it PLUS the bottle of Tylenol had a $1.50 off coupon on the box! So in total I spent $4.02 on 3 bottles of Childrens Tylenol. But I didn't get the $5 RR with it, I guess because I used to many coupons. So kuddos to all the ladies that can walk away with paying $.20 for 15 items, I don't know how you do it.

Black Day

It is a Black, Black Day at the Military Wife's house. The Gators lost to Ole Miss! That's twice this week that an unranked team has beat a ranked team in the top 5! The said part is they lost by 1 point, that's just heartbreaking. So their is not much talking going on just a bunch of moping around. C doesn't even know if he can watch the Georgia game tonight he is so upset. Oh well it will all be better next Saturday.

Argh!

eBay is so addictive! If I'm going to bid on an item I automatically know how high I'm going to go before I go into the auction. But that never works. I get so mad when someone bid's against me I bid higher. Its like a disease I do it everytime. I always say "I am NOT going higher than $15 on this item." By the time its all said and done with I have paid $30 for the item and another $10 on shipping. I think I am taking it personal, its almost as if I think they are doing it to make me mad. And then their are time I feel so bad for bidding higher I hope someone outbids me so I don't have to pay that much for the item. I guess I am just going to have to ban eBay from my computer so this problem is taken care of. Also so my husband stops looking at the checkbook and saying "What did you buy from eBay now that we couldn't live without?"

Fall Is Here

So it officially feels like fall outside. Today I had to go run some errands and I actually wore jeans and a sweater. Granted it is still 74 degrees here, but to me that feels chilly. Its normally in the upper 80s or lower 90s and extremely humid. I know a lot of people have it much cooler than I do and I should be grateful that I can actually go get the mail without breaking a sweat but I can't help thinking what comes after fall. The most dreaded season, Winter. Even though we don't get snow here it's cold and depressing. Don't get me wrong I love the holiday season, but it goes downhill after that. If I can make it through March I will be okay, it gets warm then. Okay sorry, rant for the day officially over.

BPA

As we all know their are many concerns over Bisphenol A or more commonly known as BPA. It is linked to heart disease, diabetes and there is some concern about it mimicking the hormone estrogen, which is linked to several other problems. It is found in many things we have around the house, including baby bottles. So I went to my cabinet and looked at all Princess P's bottles. We have several different kinds because she very rarely takes one. As I looked at all of the bottles I seen they had the number 7 stamped on them, which means it could contain BPA. One of the bottles we have is the Playtex Drop-Ins, while the bottle contains BPA the actual Drop-Ins themselves do not. So the milk does not come in contact with the BPA. And Playtex is offering a free Drop-In bottle per household if you want to try one. If you are curious to see which bottles and sippy cups are safe to use check out this really cool website I found Safe Mama it has lots of neat information.

Night, Night

When my daughter gets tired she fights sleep terrible. We have tried everything from bedtime routines to not letting her nap as much during the day. But sometimes she just doesn't want to give in and go to sleep. So tonight I was rocking her and talking to her trying to get her to calm down and that wasn't working, so I started to sing to her. Her deep cries turned into whimpers and I thought that I was doing some good, until I ran out of lullabies and sung the same song over and over. I was getting on my own nerves and Princess P was still whimpering so I started to sing Christmas Songs! I have to admit I'm very, very excited about Christmas this year. I'm sure it has something to do with Princess P's very first Christmas and it is our first Christmas in our new house. But anyway I don't know what this random post is really about, the fact that I know very little lullabies or how excited I am about Christmas! And the singing didn't work after all, she finally went to sleep on her own an hour later.

"We Will Never Forget"

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4 (New International Version)

Presents!

Christmas came early for Princess P this year. Her Papa and Uncle came down to see her this week and her Papa got her the Rainforest Jumperoo and a Baby Einstein DVD. So we put it together last night and she loves it! She can actually move some of the toys herself and she loves to watch the flashing lights. We were actually going to get this for her for Christmas but the weight limit on it is 25 pounds and at 3 months old she is pushing 15 pounds. This way she can get more use out of it. When we got up this morning we put her in the Jumperoo and put on the DVD and she got so excited, she didn't know what to look at first. So now we just have to figure out what to get her for Christmas.

Waiting On Hanna

As the night draws closer on our area so does Tropical Storm Hanna. We are sitting here waiting with anticipation on this unwelcome visitor. Although it is not suppose to be much, it's enough to worry you. We just watched the evening news and the surfers seem to be taking advantage of the situation though. Our area is likely to get some wind and rain, but the biggest concern is tornadoes. Our counties Emergency Management told us not to be on the roads after 8 o'clock, which was 30 minutes ago, because of the winds. The storm is hitting us at the worst time, it is suppose to make landfall around 3 am, which makes for a long night. So I'm off to do some dishes and give Princess P a bath and find the flashlight, then try to get some rest.

Here are 2 different live web cams so you can watch the storm roll in:

This one is located in Myrtle Beach, SC

This one is located in Kill Devil Hills, NC

It's not a Fairy Tale

When I first got married I was very naive. I went into it thinking it was going to be a fairy tale, and I quickly realized it wasn't. The first month went pretty smoothly, we were still in the "newlywed" phase. We were settling into our new house and decorating and I couldn't believe how great things were between us. Then after that wore off, that's when the fights came. The arguments were, and still are, mainly over money. I probably didn't go a week without crying over something. All I could think was "Is this how it's going to be forever?". So the process went we would get into an argument, I would get upset and call my mom, which usually resulted in another argument for calling my mom and telling her. One day we got into this really bad argument which went on all day, and as usual I called my mom. But this time I couldn't even tell her what we were arguing about. That's when she gave me this advice, she said "Chose your battles wisely". So I took that into consideration, and when things were getting heated between us again, even though I knew I was right, I kept my mouth shut. But let me tell you that was Very Hard, I am a very opinionated person. We still had our battles but not quite as often. Then our daughter was born, and everything changed drastically. We fought over everything who changed her last, who burped her last, who had done the most work. And on top of that the money problems were getting worse. So we came up with a new rule, that even though we have our disagreements we take 10 minutes to ourselves to calm down and then we try to talk it out. We still have bumps in the road, but it's getting better. Whenever we do get in a argument and I wish he would just disappear, I have to remind myself that he will only for 6 or 9 months to a war zone. And when that time comes I will be wishing he was home to fight with.

Home is where the Air Force takes us, we have lived in the mountains and on the coast. I have learned to expect the worst that way I'm never disappointed. Always use pencil because nothing is set in stone. You learn not to take the time with one another for granted. You become accustom to hearing jets 24/7. I can iron a uniform in 3 minutes flat. Before our daughter, I learned to sleep with a body pillow so I didn't feel so alone at night. You are on a first name basis with the man at the post office. Christmas is the hardest holiday without them, but so is New Year's Eve when Auld Lang Syne is playing in the background. Its a hard life, but its our life.
